It's The Market, Baby... It's The Market
Dear Friend,
Here's the biggest problem you're going to run into, when it comes to making money. It's NOT having bad sales copy -- RARELY can good sales copy alone, save you. More often than not, it's your entire marketing system (or lack of one) or it's the way you've positioned yourself that needs to be changed.
But the biggest down-fall I see, is a failure to contact the RIGHT buyers for whatever it is you're selling. In other words, missing your market.
If you're speaking to people who aren't receptive to what you have to say, even the greatest sales copy in the world, won't save you. On the other hand, even mediocre sales copy will work if you're pitching to someone who's enthusiastic and hungry for what is is you have to offer.
Let me give you an example of something. A while ago, I received an offer to advertise on a site called "cowboy.com" -- at no charge. Now at first blush, a lot of people might think, "Oh wow! Free advertising, great! Let me sign up." But why would I do this?
If you look at the website, it's all about "western" things. Go to the forums on the site, and what's there? Favorite horse (Mr. Ed?)... favorite country and western music... poetry... over and under age 40... shootings... art... recipes, and things like that. Nowhere in there is "entrepreneurs"... "marketing"... or even "selling."
So if I took the time to put together an ad, even a GREAT ad, what would I get out of it? Perhaps someone looking for help putting their big stud horse out to breed -- if I was lucky -- and this isn't what I want.
Think about this the next time you're about to do some marketing. Because in the end, it really is your "market" that's MOST important, first and foremost.
By the way, I am admittedly fairly ignorant about politics and world history, and so I don't usually comment on it. There are enough things I DO know about, to keep you entertained, that I'd rather not shoot my mouth off about things I am obviously not qualified to opine on.
However, I am a VERY keen student of human nature and so I'd just like to make a few comments about what's going on with Representative Mark Foley from Florida, because as a father of three, I've just GOT to get this off my chest. The down-playing of what Foley's done, by ANY one, is disgusting.
Why he's being treated any different from any other "regular" person who's preyed on children, is a travesty of justice (Gosh, that sounds so "legal" doesn't it?), and anyone who's trying to protect or minimize what's been done, using righteous indignation as a smokescreen, is as ignorant as can be and should be ashamed of themselves.
Now go sell something,
Craig Garber
