The Most Important Lesson I Learned And Why
Dear Friend,
Just came back in from San Diego last night and my head is reeling with ideas. I was a panelist at JVAlert! and I met some very bright minds there, who are using some very unique ways of driving traffic to their websites.
I also got to see a little bit of San Diego and it is no doubt, a BEAUTIFUL city, one well worth visiting.
Boy, was it great to see my wife waiting for me at the airport. I see loads of good-looking women around, whenever I'm traveling, but none of them "do it" for me like Anne does. We've got a unique chemistry that's a once-in-a-lifetime deal, and gosh am I lucky.
I also met a man there named John DiLemme. John's an international motivational speaker with one hell of a work ethic and he's one of the few guys I've met, who's as energetic and passionate about what he does as I am. If you hang out with they guy, you see, like myself -- he's "on fire."
John's shared the stage with many well known speakers including Les Brown and Jim Rohn, and like myself, one of the things he is VERY obsessed with, is completely AVOIDING negative people, at all costs. He knows you grow, and improve your life, your lifestyle, and your financial situation, but looking "up", not down.
Here are a few other unusual things John and I have in common:
- I'm two years older than John, but our actual birthday is only 4 days apart. (He has more hair than I do, but of course I'm a little better looking.)
- His parents lived on the SAME exact block my parents did, when I was first born -- on Gun Hill Road and Decatur Avenue in the Bronx.
- He dreams big -- VERY big. But he's not blind enough to think he's going to get to live his dreams simply by "dreaming" alone. He's meticulous about what he does and he has a variety of SYSTEMS in place to make things happen, and he's a non-stop worker.
Now I don't know if I'm going to be able to make this happen or not, because John travels around the world (literally) more than Christopher Columbus did, but... I think I'll find out this week whether or not I can make this happen, and if so, believe me I'll let you know right away, because you do NOT want to miss out on this one.
Want to know THE most important lesson I learned at the meeting in San Diego?
O.K., here goes: Before I leave you for today, one thing that was HAMMERED home at this conference, is that being able to leverage your products using joint venture partners, is THE smartest thing you can possibly do for your business.
Think about it, if you were an actual manufacturing company, would you limit your sales to only what you can sell alone, or... would you rather have a bunch of independent reps located around the world selling your product for you?
Does Tropicana sell their fruit juices direct, or do they have it on the shelves of THOUSANDS of grocery stores around the world?
Which situation makes you more money?
The "distribution" model, right?
Well, this is what the power of joint venture relationships does for you.
And let me tell you something, as simple and easy -- AND as important as this message is -- this was NOT an easy message for me to understand and internally validate and accept. I'm a self-made guy and I've always been incredibly independent, and while this is most definitely a blessing -- it's also a curse. It limits your ability to accept help from others, even when it's to your advantage.
I guess, like every other message you finally "get", this weekend I was hearing it from the right people and at the right point in time of my life, and perhaps you hearing it from me will make the same impact on your life as was made on mine this past weekend.
I genuinely hope so.
