Which Of These Two Do You Want -- Love Or Money?
Dear Friend,
There's an uncomfortable fine line you need to walk as you become more successful, and at some point in time you're going to have to consider crossing over it, whether you like it or not.
That thing you need to consider is, which is more important to you: being accepted by your peers... or maximum income. Can't have both.
I met a few copywriters out in San Diego who told me the "word on the street" about me is that I'm aloof and "cocky" -- that I think my shit doesn't stink.
This reasoning evolved because I don't participate on some kind of copywriters board or something, and "all the copywriters" participate. They figure since I charge higher fees than probably all of them combined, that I'm some kind of a "snob" or something.
They're right... sort of.
For starters, I had no idea a board like that even existed.
Second, why would I care about participating on a board like this? In a million years I'd never devalue my advice by giving it away for free -- after all, peer approval will never pay for your groceries while you're at the supermarket... never pay for books and educational materials that will help you grow and develop... and it will never buy your wife and children gifts at Christmas time either.
Third, I don't even have enough time to finish the work I'm paid for, so why would I waste time chatting away for free -- just to get "peer approval" -- that as I just discussed, really won't help you achieve your goals, one little bit?
I also hear similar things from my clients. One client of mine out in Washington state, who does business near the Washington - Idaho border, recently started running an ad I wrote for him, and he told me he is now SOO busy, not only are he and his wife in "almost disbelief" about the checks he's regularly bringing to the bank, but he said his peers are making him an outcast because they don't "understand" his king of marketing.
Is he upset at being an "outcast"?
Of course not. He's laughing all the way to the bank!
In fact, he also said if he runs the same yellow pages ad I wrote for him, in the next county over, he will wind up putting his lone competitor in that county, completely out of business.
Look, as you start climbing the totem pole of success, every single person you pass is going to be jealous, frustrated, and critical of your success. Heck, reality is, even most of your supposed "friends" won't be too happy for your new-found lifestyle. They'll say "it just happened", but you of course, know that "overnight sensations" only exist in the movies and on T.V.
So if you want to keep moving forward on the road to the top, you're going to have to choose which is more important to you -- being liked and accepted by your peers, or making a killing in your business and being a bit of a loner, at least as far as your immediate circle of friends goes. Not an easy choice for some... but incredibly easy for me.
Remember, you have one person to satisfy, and that's you (of course, you must satisfy the people you're working with if you want to stay in business over the long haul, as well). And then you may have a few people to hold yourself accountable to and look after, and that's your family.
After that, I think any fair man would tell you you've done your job and the rest is "extra."
The choice is yours. Make a wise one.
A quick announcement: Like any good capitalist, I make a lot of decisions based on the laws of supply and demand. And based on demand, I will be putting the price of The Seductive Selling System up by $100 Dollars, sometime very soon. So if you've been sitting on the edge of the fence about things, now's the time to get moving. There are more testimonials and success stories sent in for the system, than you can shake a stick at, and the system comes with a ZERO-Risk GUARANTEE, so check it out right here: http://www.kingofcopy.com/seductive
