Why Your Customers Will Give You More Money

That sneaky Jeff Bezos over at Amazon.com -- he's managed to come up with yet ANOTHER clever idea that's making him a bundle.

First off though, let me preace my comments with the following statement:  Most people are W-A-A-Y to timid when it comes to closing the sale and asking their customers for more money.  Instead of thinking about all the added value you're giving them, you're feeling "awkward" about getting more from them.  Maybe even in some extreme cases, "undeserving."

You're wrong for feeling that way.

Appreciate that when someone comes to you, ultimately... they're looking for something.  Think about it: they WANT to buy something, otherwise they wouldn't have come around in the first place, right?

Now that doesn't mean you're going to have an easy time of it -- all it means is that you're going to have to work for it by letting them know, "what's in it for them" -- and "why YOU over someone else."  O.K.?

So here's what amazon.com's done.  They started a service called "Amazon Prime."

This service gives you automatically "free" two-day shipping, or only $3.99 for overnight shipping.  It costs just $79 Dollars a year, and I can tell you now, they're probably losing money on the shipping aspects of the deal -- but... they didn't set it up for profit.

Not at all.

They set it up so you buy more from them, and any losses they may get hit with on the shipping side, they know will be MORE than made up for by all the extra merchandise you're going to be purchasing.

For instance, since I joined amazon.com prime, I've made at LEAST 3 or 4 extra purchases I probably wouldn't have made before, becuase they were spur-of-the-moment deals and since I KNEW I'd be receiving my merchandise in a day or two, they satisfied some immediate gratification needs I had.  And rest assured your customers have the same needs to be satisfied.

In fact, in the last couple of weeks ALONE I've ordered:

Blind Faith - Live at London's Hyde Park, a 1969 concert DVD -- even though I rarely watch DVD's and have a stack on my "to watch" shelf.

The Best Things to Do in New York City: 1001 Ideas -- in anticipation of an upcoming private and very secret marketing meeting being held in New York City in November.

And the following CD's:   Opiate, and Lateralus - by Tool, and Thirteenth Step - by A Perfect Circle

Chances are, if I did NOT have the Amazon Prime service, I wouldn't have ordered at least HALF of this merchandise, but because I knew I'd be getting my stuff almost instantly -- AND since shipping was free and I didn't have to sit there thinking about it -- BAM!  I ordered away.

Think long and hard about what you can do for your customers that will make getting whatever it is you provide, that much easier, and forcing some kind of a continuity surge -- AND charging for it.  I bet you'll find it will turn into you own, Acres Of Diamonds.
