"Yes, Dear"
Dear Friend,
Before I get started today, if you want to become an affiliate of mine for a product I'm working on, that will give you a nice chunk of change for each sale you make, then shoot me an e-mail or give me a call and let me know. And if you can give me some specifics about you or your list in your e-mail, that'd be great.
I will be working with a VERY small number of affiliates on this project, so be quick, because I'll be making my selections on a first-come, first-served basis.
I'll personally follow up with you directly, to discuss what's happening on my end, and to answer any and all of your questions about me or my project.
Now for today's tip:
So Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey are finally breaking up.
I actually felt sorry for those poor kids. All that money... being whisked around from place to place in one huge limo after another... global travel with a posse of assistants following you where ever you go... geez, that had to be rough.
But I guess the bottom line is, working with your spouse isn't easy, especially when there's big egos involved.
And look, let's face it: Marriage is tough enough even when you're apart all day long, but for many people, the added stresses that accompany having a business relationship as well, are enough to make things simply come unglued at the seams, and collapse altogether.
Even though Anne and I are both what you'd probably call strong personalities, I'd say we work pretty well together. It helps that we do completely separate things -- this way she's not in my face and I'm not in hers -- and it also helps that we consider each other best friends and partners in everything we do together, so we know we're both on the same team from the get-go.
We also have a few HUGE things in our favor.
First off, she's a good boss and I'm not -- she's much better at "running" operations than I am.
And although I'm fiercely independent, when it comes to control -- my mantra is more of a "just don't try and control me" one, rather than me having some inherent need to control others. I'm more than content to just sit in my office and read and write and do whatever else I feel like doing, and never having to supervise anyone.
In fact, one of my rules about my business is to NEVER ever have any employees, outside of family members (thank goodness we have all these kids).
I just don't have the patience and tolerance you need to babysit employees -- and make no mistake about it -- you ARE a parent and a therapist when you have employees.
Many couples though, DO get caught up in power struggles nowadays. Because there are so many more women-owned businesses now, and because so many baby boomer-aged men lost their jobs during the last recession when the stock market collapsed, a lot of husbands are now working for their wives.
According to Jean Charles, owner of JustRight Coaching, most husband and wife business arrangements DON'T go smoothly, especially when the husbands held power-positions of their own, prior to joining their wives in business, and now they're in a position where they have to answer to their missus.
These guys just need to get on the same program Anne's waiting for me to get on.
You see, the only thing I think my wife would like, is after all these years (just a hair shy of 13), she's still waiting for me to get on the program that ALL wives love, which is the "Yes dear" program.
I don't know why I can't seem to get on that program -- it's not that I don't lover her or trust her -- I just never seem to have "Yes, dear" as my first reaction to things. (Except one thing, of course.)
Anyway, I've promised her that at my seminar in March, standing up right there in front of everyone, I would say "Yes, dear" to her, no questions asked.
