Why Are We So Skeptical Of Positive Ones?
Dear Friend,
Yesterday's e-mail when we were talking about goal-setting triggered a few well-received responses. And I mean only a FEW.
And believe me, it's not because this is a small list. It's because like I said in yesterday's e-mail, setting goals is "something most people know about, but few actually do."
I didn't just pull that one out of my ass, I said it because it's true. You sit and observe people and you know what they're doing, regardless of what they SAY they're doing.
Anyway, this afternoon we're having our group coaching call for my Mentoring group -- http://www.kingofcopy.com/maverickmentoring -- and this subject is one of the things we're actually going to be talking about.
It's also something I harp on, not necessarily goal-setting exclusively, but specific aspects of "Success Programming" in general, in the Seductive Selling Newsletter - http://www.kingofcopy.com/ssnl -- and if you're NOT doing this, it's apparent in your success. You will ONLY go so far, whether you care to admit it or not. And that's not a "kingofcopy" rule, it's a fact of success and a fact of life.
One of the very smart comments I got yesterday was from Tom Cone, from the U.K. Tom's a smart marketer, a genuine guy, and a great family man. He and his wife have raised four great kids togehter, and here's what Tom said:
"If we avoid Negative mantras.. why are we so skeptical of Positive ones?
If you were to ask people to wake up and say three times.."today I'm gonna get hit by a bus".. They'd instinctivley know not to say it, so why is it such a reach to mantra something positive?
"today I'm gonna get a pay rise", "today I'm gonna lose another kilo"
I guess we're lazy because we'll have to follow though and we know we've got a responsibility!"
Tom's right, but I'm always amazed how people will be totally afraid of success, and yet, get married... buy a home... or worse -- have CHILDREN, without giving it much more than a few fleeting thoughts.
So that's a wrap for today. Off to the Big Apple with my wife and kids for a few days of R & R tomorrow, and to finish up this month's Seductive Selling newsletter, where the theme of the month has to do with James Brown, The Godfather Of Soul and the "hardest-working man in show-business".
