It Happens Somewhere Between 0 And 100
Dear Friend,
A couple of weekends ago I was invited to be a guest at Michael Penland's excellent seminar up in Orlando, Florida.
I had never met Michael before and he is as genuine a man as you'll ever find, in addition to being quite knowledgeable about business and marketing.
One of Michael's speakers was Glenn Turner.
If you've never heard of Glenn, you can search the internet and you'll find all sorts of goodies. From how he built up a $150 million dollar company in just 3 years, starting with just $5,000, to how he scammed thousands of people in the process, and ultimately served 5 years in state prison for it, in Arizona.
In any case though, Glenn's been around for a while now (I believe he is at least 70), and I had the chance to speak with him privately, for about 15 minutes or so, behind closed doors.
And you know, when you get around people who know what they're doing...
15 Minutes Is Like A Day-And-A-Half Compared To People Who Are "Average"
Whether you think Glenn is a thief or not, and whether he's a good guy or a bad guy, is irrelevant, because EVERYONE thinks Glenn is one of the most captivating speakers ever.
Glenn's got a unique ability to mesmerize a crowd and motivate them like no one else I've seen before.
While we were speaking, he told me TWO things, and both of them are goldmines, even though they only took a mere few minutes to digest.
And here's the kicker -- both things Glenn told me were the keys to the secrets of speaking success -- and...
They Were Also The Keys To Writing Winning Sales Copy!
Which should logically lead you to understand that GOOD speakers aren't supposed to do a knowledge-dump on you, they're supposed to be selling you "something".
And I don't mean they're necessarily trying to take your money, which they may or may not be doing, I mean they're trying to persuade you to believe what they're saying is true.
Good speakers, like Turner, actually give you an "experience", the same way a preacher at a revival may give the members of his audience an experience, albeit, it doesn't have to be a religious one -- but in fact, it is usually some kind of an internal sensory and emotional experience.
And bad speakers of course, also give you an experience, but these experiences are the one's you want to avoid, the same way you want to avoid eating old cottage cheese or rotten salad dressing or something like that.
So the first thing Glenn said was... he asked me if I knew what it took to be a good speaker.
Lord knows I wasn't going to tell Glenn W. Turner I know anything about speaking, because he's forgotten 10 times more than what I'll ever know about it, so I eagerly said, "Tell me, Glenn."
And Glenn said, "When someone asks me what it takes to be a good speaker, I tell them to get up there on stage and just start speaking."
"And then somewhere between 0 and the 100th time he's up there, he'll become a good speaker."
"And that's it."
"All you need to do to become a good speaker is speak, and then do it again and again and again."
And you've got to believe this is the exact route Glenn took -- since his father was a sharecropper and since Glenn himself was born with a harelip -- you've got to figure, in these circumstances, "speaking" probably wasn't what people would have predicted Glenn would excel at, right?
But boy-oh-boy he sure is good.
Like myself, and like most successful people I've met, I'm sure Glenn failed his way to success.
The other thing Glenn told me, was the ONE thing you should do when you want to start speaking and you don't know what to say... you aren't prepared... or you were asked to speak on an impromptu basis.
I can't tell you what this is, right now... but if you come to my seminar in March, I promise to tell you either during one of the breaks, or at the networking gatherings in the evening.
You can register for the seminar whenever you want, but you've only got 12 more days to get in at the HUGE discounted tuition, so hop to it quickly -- don't walk, but run... yes run -- on over to http://www.informationmarketingexpo.com if you know what's good for you.
Now go sell something,
