Screwgled
Dear Friend,
You know how, when you print something -- like a book or a manual or any other information product -- you're protected from some other idiot coming along and stealing it and making money off it, by the copyright laws of whatever country you live in?
(Except China -- I don't think they have any copyright laws at all. That's why you can buy illegal copies of DVD's of American movies over there before they're even released here. Not that I know where you can buy them or anything, it's just something I heard in passing.)
But now Google's coming along and they've decided to scan every single book that's ever been published, and display the contents of them online for you to download. They say it's going to help all the "independent publishers".
Well golly gee willikers, ain't that benevolent of them!
I'm sure it has NOTHING at all to do with them having adsense on any of those pages, right?
So now authors who couldn't sell their books in the first place have a mechanism for the rest of the world (who didn't want their books in the first place) to get them "again" -- only this time they're free.
I wonder if they'll pay these authors a cut of the adsense revenue from ads displayed on these pages...
Since they're looking to "help all the independent publishers out there."
Sounds like Googles putting the royal screws to someone out there, no?
What's next -- audio CD's and DVD's online...
To help the starving musicians?
To be fair, there's some talk about Google NOT publishing the works of authors who don't want them published, but what are they going to do -- hunt down and ask every single author who's ever written a book, if they want it published?
To me this just smells like some sort of politically correct answer to a no-win question.
As for me, I plan on releasing 2 powerhouse info-products in the next 60 days, and by hook or by crook, you can bet your sweet bippy, I won't get screwgled by Google.
Now go sell something,
Craig Garber
