Products Fo Dummies
Dear Friend,
First things first: I just found out yesterday that only "some" of the e-mail has been making it through to my assistant Anne over the last 6 weeks.
So... if you've sent her an e-mail (to anne at kingofcopy dot com) and you haven't received a response, that's why.
Our technical problems are 100% corrected now, so please re-send any requests, comments or messages you may have sent her anytime over the last 6 weeks. Thanks.
Second, on Thanksgiving, the price of my newest marketing kit, "22 Ways To Completely Eliminate ALL Your Marketing Heacaches!", will be increasing. -- http://www.kingofcopy.com/22ways -- That's only 8 more days left to get the slashed price and pre-production discount, so hop to it!
You snooze, you lose, know what I mean?
Now let me talk about something that just MAY give you a rise.
And that is... the subject of "creating products."
You'll notice I titled today's tip "Products Fo Dummies" not "Products FOR Dummies". This is because I have a gut "feel" that the publishers of the "For Dummies" book series are very anal-retentive and protective over their "brand".
They probably have an armada of legal thugs on their staff who do nothing but scour the web all day long for anyone using this brand to sell something, and Lord knows that's the last thing I want to deal with.
Now a lot of people struggle with information product ideas.
They think you need to come up with something as revolutionary as the light bulb and anything less, isn't worthy of selling.
This simply isn't true, not by a long-shot.
Remember, just sell something people WANT to buy, not something you think people will NEED.
You have NO way of determining whether a "need" will actually be "wanted", but you can determine if people WANT something by doing some market research, right?
So be smart, and do somehing cheap and easy like Tom Cone did.
Tom's a very nice, but simple man who lives in a VERY small town about 25 miles from York, in England.
In fact, Tom's not even that smart when it comes down to it, and he damn sure doesn't work that hard. Instead, Tom spends a great deal of his time sleeping and hanging out with his lovely wife Deborah, raising their 4 nearly-grown children (3 girls and a boy) in their small village.
The most work Tom usually does is to walk down to the sweet shoppe in the center of his town, called "Andy's Candy's".
But that's O.K. -- see, you don't need to BE smart to make products that sell, you just need to WORK smart.
Here's what happened: Tom was eating lunch at northeast England's only Chinese restaurant one day, and noticed the unique designs the waitresses were using to fold up their napkins.
Thinking other restaurants, as well as people who entertain at home would like to be able to fold their napkins the same way, Tom came up with an idea for w product.
So he went home and did some market research on this and decided it would be worth it to try and develop a video product about napkin-folding.
Want to know how much this product cost Tom to put together?
Well, outside of the cost of the video equipment, it cost Tom...
Nothing!
In fact, the owners of the Chinese restaurant even fed Tom and his crew free lunch!
And so Tom produced a DVD about folding napkins.
And how is this DVD selling... and what were Tom's experiences as a result of making this product?
I'd say pretty good.
In fact, last time I spoke to Tom, he had completely sold out of his stock of DVD's (which you can find online right here: http://www.learnbyvideo.co.uk/public/33.cfm ) and the press release he wrote got him interviews on several regional television talk shows.
Now bear in mind, Tom had never produced a product like this before, and as far as writing a press release goes, Tom is NOT a professional copywriter.
He did however, do the ONE thing you need to do, to make a project a success.
He took action and did something instead of "thinking about doing something."
Which is where EVERYTHING all begins, right?
So what actions will YOU be taking today?
Now go sell something,
