“Newsflash!  Here’s Why The
World Really Is A Very Small Place!”

I just got back and I gotta tell you -- I absolutely love New York City.

There are a slew of reasons why, but mostly I love it because of the people.

They're so straight-forward -- no surprises, you know what I mean?  You always know where you stand when you're dealing with a New Yorker -- they don't pull any punches -- and I like that.

And once you get past the outer veneer of a New Yorker -- and you do this easily, by simply "speaking up" and letting them see what you're made of -- this way they know you're a "safe" person to deal with... New Yorkers are the most friendly and helpful people around.

For example, my younger son lost his cell phone one day while he was running around Washington Square Park with my daughter.  And what happened?

Someone found the phone and turned it in to the park's head of maintenance.  The head of maintenance (his name was "Perez") answered the lost cell phone when I rang it up, and the next day we all went back down to the park to pick up the phone.

Turns out, Perez used to live near me in the Bronx, but... it gets even stranger.  I'm standing there talking to Perez and his assistant, and the assistant seems oddly familiar to me.

Turns out, I went to high school with this guy!

Let me tell you a story about this fella.  Let's call him "Tom" for now. 

I was "casual" friends with Tom in school -- I don't think we ever socialized after school (he lived in Manhattan and I lived in the Bronx) -- but I think we may have shared homeroom one year, and a few classes now-and-again, over time.  

I do remember Tom was an extremely likeable fellow -- the kind of guy who was always smiling... never had a bad word to say about anyone... and would always give you a helping hand if you needed it.

Frankly, Tom reminds me a lot of my younger son, Casey.  Casey's always got a smile on his face... he only sees the goodness in things... he rarely has a bad word to say about anything... and, he's always there when you need him.

Anyhow, after seeing Tom for the first time in almost 24 years (and his likeable personality hasn't changed a lick), I get home and do a Google search on Tom, and here's what I find:

Almost one year ago to the day I ran into Tom, smack dab in the middle of Washington Square Park, some idiot tossed a 10-pound boulder from an overpass, at the exact same time Tom's wife of 12 years happened to be driving underneath.

She died -- instantly.

Apparently, she had been on her way to Church with her mom.

Now mind you, Tom didn't mention one word of this.  All he did was shake my hand... smile that same happy smile, along with that familiar twinkle in his eyes I recognized from a long long time ago... and wish me and my family well.

Why am I telling you this sad story?

To be honest, I don't rightly know -- but I do know this:  If Tom can wake up in the morning and go to work every day and put a smile across his face, after living through what he's been through, then there's absolutely NO reason at all why you can't take the next step forward in your business, and therefore in your life, to start creating the marketing system you've been "thinking" about creating, since you started reading my newsletter.

Listen, I promise new doors WILL start opening up for you, but they'll only open up after you've opened up that first one.

And that first one won't budge, unless
you get off your ass and start taking action!

And I guarantee once you do take action, you'll feel a LOT better about yourself.

Here's another weird thing that happened on this trip.  On the fight up to LaGuardia, from Fort Lauderdale, I saw another guy I went to high school with on the plane.

It was almost like the freakin' Bronx High School of Science Class of '81 reunion for me last week.

So you see...

It Really Really IS, A Very Small World!

Here's another nice thing that happened to us:  We were taking pictures all day long, all over the streets of New York, and on more than one occasion, a complete stranger volunteered to take the picture for us, so I could hop into the shot along with my family.

See, the world is simply FILLED with good people.

All you need to do... is be open to finding them.

Anyway, next time I'm going to share some marketing lessons I learned while I was away, but for now, here's some general "housekeeping" items you may need to be aware of:

I received a handful of comments about my last tip and the availability of mailing "lists", outside of the United States, and I wanted to share this information with you.

  • Copywriter Michael Silk and subscriber Bernard Davies told me, "We do have a publication here in the UK very similar to the SRDS.  It is called Lists and Data Sources (otherwise known as the LADS Directory), and the details are:

  • Andrew Cavanaugh had this to add:  "Since a lot of your subscribers are probably selling products on the internet... the easiest way to find a list online is to do a google search under the search term closest to your product and then check out all the websites for related, but non-competitive products.

    Then you simply ask these site owners to do an endorsed mailing to their list.

    One other technique less known is to go to Paypal (www.paypal.com) and check related categories to your product and look for sellers listed who have a substantial number of sales -- the numbers are listed on the site itself.

    And since every Paypal sale requires an email these businesses will have the email address of every one of their purchasing clients and the date of purchase.

That's the legendary Plaza Hotel in the background.  The very
next day, the hotel was shut down for a 2-year, $350 Million
Dollar Renovation.  The owners are converting the lions
share of the hotel rooms into condos.

“Here’s something you don’t see everyday.”

I took this picture walking along Bowery Street just outside Chinatown. 

When I was a kid, Chinatown was a few square blocks around.  Today, it's one of the largest and most economically thriving communities in New York City.
