There's No Justice, Just The Law...

A while ago Cameron Diaz sued the National Enquirer for over $10 Million smackeroos.
Apparently she was pissed off becasue the story showed a picture of her hugging a guy she works with and then it had an expose about how she and Justin Timberlake were breaking up because she was cheating.
Anyway, I care nothing about things like this and their ultimate resolution, but here's what I did notice. Anytime you've got a lawsuit like this, you usually find some feeloading group of losers (or a loser and their freeloading family, like in this case) that looks at situations like this like some kind of Lotto Jackpot that's theirs to claim, if only they could be stupid enough to claim it.
In this particular situation, the Lotto candidates in question are the man Cameron Diaz was actually hugging and... of all people... the guy's mother-in-law who happens to be a quaint little Connecticut schoolteacher!
Apparently SHE is "emotionally and physically distraught" because a reporter from the Enquirer interrupted her class and asked for her opinion about the lawsuit.
Can you believe this stuff?
There's a great deal of truth to the old adage that says "truth is stranger than fiction".
Here's the thing though. Would you believe I have had one or two clients over the years who don't want to put out promotions or run press releases because they say "we might get sued".
Not because theirksales copy is aggressive and falsely promissory, but because they thing more customers equals more responsibility and this equals a greater chance for a lawsuit.
And no matter how many times I try and explain "having a pocketful of crisp $100 Dollar bills and being sued" is a lot better position to be in than "broke struggling and lawsuit-free", no one seems to care.
It comes down to, people who don't feel deserving of success, simply don't WANT to understand they can get sued for anything -- they're just looking for their next excuse to stay poor.
The truth is, in today's day-and-age you can get sued for NOTHING!
Be decisive and be successful.
Now go sell something,
Craig Garber
