Lost In Cleveland
Dear Friend,
You know, yesterday I was flying back to Tampa from Cleveland, and when we left our hotel to head out towards the airport, we suddenly realized none of us had bothered to get a map to figure out where we were going, or to even ask for directions.
This was ironic since the entire purpose of our trip up to Cleveland, was to get consulting on our various projects.
And "Yes", I am an avid fan of investing in consulting. I know good consulting doesn't "cost" you anything -- it's an investment you'll recoup, usually quickly -- as long as you put into place what you've been advised to do.
You'll find most people who are good consultants themselves -- http://www.kingofcopy.com/consulting -- practice what they preach.
Meaning, we went up there to get pointed in the right direction about one thing, and yet, oddly enough...
We left there without any sense of direction about something else!
This was a "one-off" mistake -- an error on our part, mainly due to fatigue and enthusiasm -- and because we were so pre-occupied with our thoughts about all the information we had gathered and all the excitement over our future plans and things we needed to implement (some of which we started doing that very same night after our meeting).
Having said that, there are millions of people out there who go from day-to-day, without any plan at all.
Are you one of them?
Do you have a specific plan for how you're going to accomplish what it is you're looking to do, and if so... are you sticking to it?
Or are you just "winging it" from one whim to another, based on how you're feeling or the mood you're in when you wake up and get out of bed?
I can tell you from experience, having a plan and sticking to it takes you a lot further than winging it.
For starters, if you don't have anything to keep you ON track, you have no emotional and financial "guidelines" and therefore no incentive not to veer "off-track".
Having a plan is like working to a deadline -- you're much more efficient and focused.
And on top of that, without a plan or a set of goals, you're as easily distracted as a kitten who's got a mouse on a thin rubber string, dangling in front of it -- whatever that little pussy was doing before, is immediately forgotten -- regardless of WHAT that cat's been doing.
Remember, you can't focus on barreling over the end zone, unless you know what, and where that end zone is, and having written goals and a systematic plan in place to achieve them, makes that end zone much more visible -- and much more REAL -- to you.
Otherwise you're always just setting up for your next set of downs, but unfortunately... you're never scoring.
Now go sell something,
Craig Garber
