London Calling

Dear Friend,

Right now as we speak I'm putting the final touches on some last-minute details, as well as shoving the last bits of my underwear and wolly jumpers (that's "British" for sweaters) into my suitcases for my trip over to England.

You know, growing up in New York City, I realize the value of knowing "where to go" and... where "not to".

I also know that while most New York City tourist guides and brochures will send you to ritzy italian restaurants... the Statue Of Liberty... and fine Szechuan Cuisine... the real "experience" of New York is had by going to places that serve you HUGE piping hot slices of pizza... enormous bagels with warm coffee... little dives in Chinatown that don't look like much on the outside, but will leave you with a lifetime of memories once you saunter through the very front doors that DON'T necessarily welcome "out-of-towners"... and sipping a frosty frozen Margarita at the Mexican place that's NOT on your list.

I've also had the luxury of experiencing more slices of life in one afternoon while strolling through Washington Square Park, than most tourists will ever see in a lifetime of visits to the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, and I'm painfully aware that the best place to get a cigar isn't at Davidoff's on 5th Avenue (at least not if you don't want to spend a car payment on a box of cigars, anyway), but down at the little Cigar shop on Carmine Street in the village.

Having said all that, it turns out that this Thursday, the 22nd, I have a "free day", that I'd like to use to visit London.

On this day, Anne and the girls will be primping and preening and pacing back-and-forth, in anticipation of her sister's wedding, and you don't need to be a nuclear physicist (or a "nucular" physicist if you're George W.) to figure out, spending Thursday at home with the girls will be about as exciting as weighing your phlegm after you spit it out.

So, if you know London as well as I know New York, I'd love to pick your brain about where to go and what to do during this day.

Just to give you an idea of what I saw the last time I was in the U.K., and what I enjoyed, I spent a few hours at Covent Garden checking out all the outdoor "vendors" along with the freaks walking around, and that was pretty cool.

I enjoy music-oriented places and places where "normal" real people hang out.

Of course I'd like to visit some shoppes, and while a brisk walk-through of Marks & Spencer would be nice, I'd love to see smaller boutique, unusual, and one-off shoppes, like Greenwich Village in New York City.

If you can help me out and give me some insight here about where to go and what to see, I'd love to speak to you.

Either shoot me an e-mail (london @ kingofcopy.com) or give me a call at 813-909-2214.

And in any case, thanks for reading this message!

Now go sell something,
