You Can Learn A Thing-Or-Two From That Captain, Jack Sparrow
Dear Friend,
Over the weekend, we went to see the second installment of the Pirates Of The Caribbean. It was simply a fantastic movie and you could learn quite a lot about it if you apply some of it's lessons to your marketing.
For starters, there was more excitement and adventure in this one movie, than you might see in any 5 movies or more, combined. Plus, the movie was a very engaging story.
And the hero of the movie, Captain Jack Sparrow, was as animated, unpredictable, and uninhibitted as ever. And this is the part you need to pay attention to.
See, between my Maverick Marketer Coaching Groups, my Private Mentoring Group, and various and asundry coaching and sales copy reviews, some weeks I'm looking at over 100 pages of sales copy besides my own.
And one very big problem a lot of people have is that they are, for whatever reason, "inhibited" about writing sales copy. Here are a few of the issues I regularly see:
- "Holding back" - because you think your market-place is going to get turned off, for a variety of different reasons
But remember, even if they DID get turned off, they'd let you know soon enough and you'd immediately make your adjustments. People, expecially your prospects, are pretty forgiving, and they'll allow you to make a lot more mistakes than you're probably allowing yourself to make. Keep this in mind -- it'll take some of the pressure off.
- Not having fun.
Look, if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: If you can be the bright ray of sunshine in your prospects lives, YOU will stand head-and-shoulders above almost EVERYONE who's trying to sell your prospects something -- let alone your competition. Smile and the world smiles with you, and so do your prospects.
- Not sharing your own "story" or other aspects of your personal life or your personality.
Your prospects are buying YOU. And there is a HUGE voyeuristic curiousity out there that needs to be satisfied. Reality TV isn't popular because people AREN'T interested in the inner workings of complete strangers lives. So go satisfy your prospect's curiosity. As long as you're not boring, they'll eat it up. And if you are boring, book some time with me and I'll tell you how to NOT be.
- Not taking risks.
Look, be a little edgy in your copy every once in-a-while. Have the balls to say things point blank. So few people DO nowadays, your prospects will find you QUITE refreshing. Don't always go with the flow. And don't always worry about making everyone happy -- you can't do it. You probably can't even make all the people in your own house happy all the time, so why have unrealistic expectations of yourself with complete strangers?
- And lastly, don't forget why you're in the game in the first place: To Sell. Don't be afraid to close. Don't be afraid to pitch. Why do you think your prospects are with you in the first place? To BUY something.
So don't disappoint them. Sell them something. Today. Now.
And just so I don't disappoint YOU, if you are NOT yet subscribed to the Seductive Selling offline Newsletter, then make SURE you don't miss out.
