Better hope that's not your Daddy up there...
Dear Friend,
You know, I think everybody pretty much has a right to their own opinion, whether I agree with you or not.
It doesn't matter what your viewpoint is -- liberal, conservative, whatever -- except for one category of people who I absolutely have zero tolerance and patience for, and who do NOT have a right to anything:
Stupid People.
I think stupid people should never EVER be allowed to open their mouths, period.
So when the director of the ACLU up in Northern California recently stepped forward and said it wasn't "fair" that the city of Oakland was singling out "johns" by putting their picture up on billboards, I just kind of shook my head and said "whaddya know, yet another stupid moment Craig has to suffer through".
Here's what's going on: over in Oakland, California, if you get picked up for soliciting a prostitute, they post your face up on a billboard. They're hoping this will reduce the level of prostitution in the city.
Now lucky for me, I happen to think my wife's pretty hot, and both of our mojo's are all working in sync, so I have never solicited a prostitute in my life.
But if I was going to solicit one, it sure as hell wouldn't be one who's "marketplace" is a public streetcorner. You'd want to go to someone more "high class" than that (assuming the old adage of "you get what you pay for" holds true in the prostitution industry of course).
This leads me to believe that the guys who ARE getting caught aren't the brightest fellows in the world, and like DUI, I'll also assume that if you get caught doing this, it wasn't your first time.
I also think, putting someone's picture up there on a billboard, IS actually a pretty good deterrant, and I wonder what the actual stats are on whether or not it's working (if you know, please give me the scoop).
If I'm honest, I'm not even sure prostitution should be illegal, as long as it's contained to a specific section of town, like in Amsterdam, and as long as they don't market it to my two hormone-raging sons of course.
And by-the-way, the strangest thing in all of this is... considering Oakland has 58% more robberies, 203% more rapes, and 208% more homicides than even The Bronx does... why they're spending even 5 minutes on their prostitution "problem" is beyond me.
But what do I know, I'm just a copywriter.
What do you think about all this stuff? Let me know.
Now go sell something,
Craig Garber
