Yesterday I was talking to one of the guys in my mentoring program - http://www.kingofcopy.com/maverickmentoring - and he sent me a headline that essentially went something like this:

"How To Write Killer Marketing Ads That WIll Drive A Ton Of Customers Through Your Doors"

This is a good headline, and at first blush, you might want to use it.

Don't.

See, if you're selling to "marketers" like you and me, you can use this headline.  We WANT to be able to write killer ads. 

But if you're selling to plumbers... or real estate investors... or even barbers for that matter, those guys don't know they need to write killer ads.  In fact, the people who need this help the most, probably don't even think you can get new customers or clients simply by writing an ad.  If they knew this, they wouldn't be in the predicament they're in, right?

So what DO you do?

You sell the BENEFITS.  You talk about the new customers, the growth in business, sales, hair growth, whatever.  But you don't talk about the work they need to do or HOW they get there.  They don't want to know that -- in fact, like I said, they probably doubt this is even possible, but that's another subject for another day.

Start with the benefits and then go backwards.  because when it comes down to it, that's what most people are doing anyway -- going backwards.  And chances are, you're going to have to do a lot of hand-holding before getting them to take even ONE step forward, believe me.

Now before I go, I just want to tell my sons Nick and Casey, and my daughter Samantha, that I love them, and I'm very proud of them.  See, they're headed back to their first day of school this morning, and last night they all had those same "jitters" you and I used to feel the night before our first day back to school after summer.  "Good luck guys" -- this time next week, all those silly fears will be nothing more than a faded memory.  Trust me -- everything will work out -- it always does, right?

Now go sell something,
