Christopher Walken

Dear Friend,

First, just to let you know -- if you are a Seductive Selling Newsletter Subscriber, and you sent me in your fax number, keep your eyes opened -- the Magic Fax will be coming to you later today or tomorrow.  Now let's roll.

I love Christopher Walken.  Not in a biblical sense or anything like that, but he is simply a fabulous actor.  He brings such believability to all his roles and his ability to "become" the character he's playing, it is simply remarkable.

Last week, I took the kids out to see Adam Sandler's new movie, Click, which Christopher Walken is in.  I can't tell you the role Walken plays in the movie, in case you haven't seen it -- it'd give the movie away -- but as usual, he did a great job acting.

Anyway, believe it or not, the movie was actually a bit if a tear-jerker, which caught all of us off-guard.  You're not expecting this from an Adam Sandler movie.  Of course, it still had all the typical funny hi-jinks you wanted to see, but the last thing you think you'd be doing at an Adam Sandler movie, is crying.

Well, the four of us were bawling our eyes out, and we weren't alone.  I'd say mostly everyone in that theater, was bleary-eyed.  It was kind of nice though, experiencing this all together.

And see, whether you realize it or not, this "believability" -- the same thing Christopher Walken excels at giving you -- is what you need to give your customers and your prospects, if you want them to buy from you.

Here's a little story about why it's so important to talk, beyond about just "your business," with your clients.

About a week ago, a new VIP First Class Maverick Marketer - http://www.kingofcopy.com/maverickmarketer - signed up.  His name is Robert Brown from Huntingtown, Maryland, and he's an ex-bodybuilder and the last thing you'd want to do is piss him off, because he's pretty huge.

He also happens to be a very genuine person and I'd suspect he's going to do well because he's a go-getter and after our first conversation, he's already taking action.

We got to talking, and one of the things I asked him was how he found me and what made him subsctibe to the Seductive Selling Newsletter - http://www.kingofcopy.com/ssnl -- and then sign up to be in my Maverick Marketers Coaching Club.

He said he found me just surfing the net, and there's a little story involved behind the series of events that actually made him sign up, but he said the bottom line was that when he knew I was "REAL", that's what made him pull the trigger on the deal.

I want you to know -- that ESPECIALLY online -- this is by FAR, the most important experience you can give your prospects.

In fact, this is SO important, I'll repeat it again: Giving your prospects as many different ways of letting you know you're real, is the single BEST thing you can do for your business.

Why "as many different ways"?  Good question.

One thing Robert mentioned to me, was that I do W-A-A-Y too much, to be a scammer.  See, people who are scam-artists, aren't scam-artists because they LIKE working.  They're scammers because they're lazy and they do NOT like working at all.  They do NOT believe in the fair exchange of cash for goods and services.  They believe in getting something for nothing.

That's a no-no.

Robert said between all the actual samples of sales copy I have scattered all over my site, and the fact that I put the effort in communicating 3, 4, sometimes 5 or more times a week, meant that there was no way I could be a fake.  Of course content's an issue as well, but we'll get to that in just a moment.

Please do not ignore these simple, but VERY critical little details.  They are the sole difference between good and great.

Now as far as content goes, here are three very important things you need to do, to increase your believability:

First, you must be consistent.  Too many deviations from what you're "supposed" to be doing, or what you "say" you're doing, don't really add up.  In poker, they call it a "tell" - it's a certain behavior a player has that "tells" you what kinds of cards he's really holding in his hand.  Maybe it's a slight head-nod... or an almost undetectable eye "twitch", but nevertheless, you're busted.

The easiest way to smell a rat is by watching out for inconsistencies, so make sure you do what you say you're going to do.

Second, be REAL.  Let your prospects know you're not perfect.  I think I do a pretty good job of letting people know I have the same struggles in life as you may be having.  I've been bankrupt, divorced, and before I "found" direct-response, back in 2000, I didn't know a thing about good marketing outside of cold-calling, begging and "networking" (that one was the MOST painful for me).

I'm not the perfect father, or the perfect husband (Although I'm pretty close to being the perfect husband, if you can stand my imperfections - just ask my wife.), and I don't have all the answers to all the marketing questions I get.  And when I don't have an answer, I'll tell you, and we'll figure out how to get it.  And I've struggled with poverty consciousness in the past and freely admit that it's something I need to work on regularly, like training in the gym -- to stay on top of it.

The point is, it's hard to endear yourself to someone you can't relate to -- someone who's "above" you, or who's moved so far ahead they don't remember what it's like to just be "regular" anymore.

Never get like that.

And lastly, the third thing you can do to be believable, is to talk to people in plain and simple English.  Save the five-dollar words for your Wednesday evening reading group and your kid's English teacher on parent night -- your prospects though, they just want to be spoken to kindly and simply.

Do these things regularly and you'll be well-liked, and your prospects will look forward to giving you money, over-and-over.

Now let me tell you something else about my Seductive Selling Newsletter and my Maverick Marketers Coaching Club if you've been thinking of signing up and you're on the edge of the fence.  At minute SIX on our coaching call, Robert Brown said, and I quote "Damn, now I wish I had you recording this.  I can not BELIEVE everything you are telling me here."  At the end of the call he said "Craig, thanks.  My head is spinning (that's the one I hear most-often) and I'll be with you for life."

Now I have NO idea whether or not Robert Brown will be with me for life, but I DO know as long as he IS with me, he'll be growing financially and character-wise, if he is truly open to doing this.  And so will you, so if you have any questions about my newsletter, that aren't answered here:  http://www.kingofcopy.com/ssnl -- or about my coaching program here: http://www.kingofcopy.com/maverickmarketer - just call me between 11 am and 1pm Florida time at 813-909-2214, on Tuesdays or Thursdays, and I'll be happy to answer your questions.

Oh, and that's another thing you can do to be believable, by-the-way.

Now go sell something,

Craig Garber
