A Night Out With Anna Nichole Smith
Dear Friend,
WOW! You'd have thought I said I was offering a night out with Anna Nicole Smith or something, the way the boards lit up simply by changing the name of my offline newsletter to "Seductive Selling" - http://www.kingofcopy.com/ssnl
This just goes to show you, what's in a name really DOES mean something.
Now let's talk about something most people know about, but few actually do: Setting Goals.
Look, setting goals isn't easy. Everybody knows that, and one of the toughest things to do for most people is to actually sit down and write your goals out.
I have an 8 1/2 x 11-inch sheet of paper at home that has a variety of goals listed on it: Financial... Marketing... Personal Fitness... Lifestyle... Efficiency... and Long-Term Goals.
Sounds convoluted, but it's really not, and I go over these goals about two or three times a week.
Then, in my wallet or in my pocket, at all times (except when I don't have pockets) I have TWO goals written on a 3 x 5-inch index card. One is a financial goal, and one is fitness related. And these goals I re-read every day.
Will doing this help me accomplish these goals?
Well, the truth is, you just don't know. But I DO know that if you're NOT working on this kind of stuff, that SURELY will NOT help you get anywhere, and the pain of this (NOT doing something), for me -- is FAR worse than the pain of trying something and then failing, so it really doesn't matter.
Like Bruce Lee said, "A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at."
I do know that burning these goals into my head like this, keeps me pretty darned focused, and that's important if you want to accomplish ANYTHING at all, isn't it?
In The Science Of Getting Rich - http://www.kingofcopy.com/products/science.html - a book I read at least once every year, I share some very intimate and personal issues with you about some of the hardships I had to overcome, before I could even THINK about setting a goal. Getting your head right means everything when it comes to your success. Like it or not, that's just the way this stuff goes.
And you know what? There are a lot of pretty famous people out there who've written their goals down, that you probably would've never expected.
For instance, comedian Jim Carrey.
When Jim was a dirt-broke stand-up comedian living in L.A., before he became an actor, he decided he was going to write a check to himself for future services rendered.
He wrote himself a check for some amount between 10 and $12 Million Dollars, and then he carried this check inside his wallet (like I do) for years, working his way through the stand-up acts to TV, until he finally got his check for his first movie, Ace Ventura.
How much was that check for?
Rumor has it... for $12 Million.
And then there was famous football coach, Lou Holtz
Lou had just lost his job as an assistant football coach at a small school in the South. His wife was was 8 months pregnant with their third child, and after reading "The Magic of Thinking Big" by David Schwartz, Lou decided to start thinking big, and he wrote down some of these big thoughts -- 107 of them in fact.
Goals from having dinner at the White House to appearing on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, to meeting the Pope, coaching at Notre Dame, leading his team to a national championship, and shooting a hole in one.
Since 1969, Lou has achieved 81 of these goals, which is an EXCELLENT winning percentage.
And finally, there was a very unlikely goal writer-downer: Bruce Lee
Next time you're in the Planet Hollywood in New York City, check out the letter hanging on the wall that Bruce Lee wrote to himself. It's stamped "secret" and it's dated January 9, 1970. What's Bruce's goal? Only this: "By 1980 I will be the best known oriental movie star in the United States and will have secured $10 million dollars."
He continues with, "And in return I will give the very best acting I could possibly give every single time I am in front of the camera and I will live in peace and harmony."
Lee understood what Napoleon Hill says in Think And Grow Rich about making sure you know what you're going to give in return for what you want. This also shows how open-minded (another hallmark of successful people) Lee was, to be doing this, as a foreigner here in America, back in 1970.
Now it's your turn -- what're your goals and what are you going to do to accomplish them? Let me know.
Now go sell something,
