Too little... too late.
Dear Friend,
Tomorrow is Father's Day here in the U.S.
Being a GOOD father isn't easy, that's for sure -- and I've got "good" kids.
Lord knows if you have little monsters, being a good father is damn near impossible.
I didn't have a particularly good father myself.
He got too angry, too often... whenever he was nice, it was too little, too late... and for a slew of other reasons, he wasn't a particularly good role model for me.
In a nutshell, he wasn't the dad I wanted, and he was W-A-A-Y too angry to be the dad I needed.
From time to time I wonder how my children feel about my own fathering skills.
Am I too rough?
Am I there for them when they need me to be?
Am I "OK" overall, with all my wrinkles included?
I do check in with them to try and get some feedback here -- they seem to feel I'm doing a good job -- in spite of my mistakes, which I do take responsibility for.
And from time-to-time, I even let them know I'm just not "equipped" to process whatever's going on, as smoothly or as competently as I'd like to, and I'll ask for their patience while I'm trying to work it out.
Like I said -- this stuff is NOT easy -- in fact, it makes marketing look like a breeze.
If you have a dad or a man who's been as close to a dad as you've needed, that you'll be sharing tomorrow with, I hope the two of you get to experience the "connection" that means so much to you.
And if you have children you love, like I do, I hope you'll be enjoying their innocence, like I will.
My sons are almost young men now, and yet they still grab my hand every once in-a-while, and they still want to spend their evenings with me.
I'm keenly aware this may not go on much longer -- I just hope it doesn't end too soon, and I hope I'm a big enough boy to accept it when it does.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and have a great Father's Day -- believe me, you deserve it.
Now go sell something,
Craig Garber
