Small Business Marketing: re: Happiness (it's an inside job)

It’s Friday and it’s like over 90 degrees outside, and the humidity is so think you can slice through it with a cake knife.

So today let’s not deal with anything too business-oriented, ok?

Let’s talk about what makes you happy.  That’s a pretty easy topic, no?

That’s something everyone wants to know about, right?

You bet.

So… what makes you happy?

Probably things like spending quality time with your family and good friends… experiencing successful things in your business… and seeing good fortune being showered on people you love and care about, right?

Who knows, maybe you’re like me and all you need is an hour of down time, a good book, and some coffee… and you’re feeling like a king.

Maybe?

Good.

But what about when people you care about aren’t doing good things?  What about when people are mean to you, or judge you for things?

This certainly isn’t a happy thing, is it?

These things don’t make you feel happy at all.  Do they?

Nope.

But you know what i’ve learned?

It really doesn’t have to be this way.

You see, happiness is a choice.  Just like going to the gym, smoking cigarettes, and opening your mail.

You get to choose whether or not you want to be happy.

And although it’s sometimes a difficult choice — Lord only knows life isn’t always easy, right? — it is still a choice, nevertheless.

The truth is, happiness is an inside job, whether you like it or not.

Keep reminding yourself of this next time someone else gets you down.  Just take back your power and make the right choice.

Or not.  It’s up to you.

Easy as that.
